My Favourite Educational App (this week)

I am loving this "Montessori Crosswords" app for students with weak phonological processing skills.  It closely parallels one of the procedures used in the writing portion of Reading Recovery lessons- Hearing and Recording Sounds in Words, using Elkonin boxes.  Students can see and hear an object and drag letters they hear into the boxes- one for each phoneme.  Students can touch the box to hear the sound and touching the letters will allow them to hear and try to match before they make their selection.   In the settings, you can choose a particular sound you want to be repeated (short -i sound, -ch sound, etc.).  I'm going to get a version for my iPhone too so more than one student can be practicing this skill.
